A home, not
a hotel

Malakkarethu House is a family home in Aranmula — one of Kerala's oldest sacred towns on the banks of the Pampa River. You stay with a Keralan family, not inside a resort that happens to look like one.

Aranmula is home to the Parthasarathy Temple and the Vallam Kali snake boat race. Mornings begin with temple bells and river mist. Evenings are slow and unhurried.

“Far from the tourist trail, close to everything that makes Kerala worth visiting.”

The Town Behind the House

Aranmula has been here
for a very long time.

The Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple dates back over a thousand years — one of the 108 Divya Desams, the sacred Vishnu temples of South India. The town has built its rhythm around it. Bells at dawn. Processions during festival season. The river always present.

Every August the Pampa fills with snake boats — long, low vessels crewed by over a hundred oarsmen. The Vallam Kali is one of the oldest boat races in the world, and Aranmula hosts its own celebrated race.

Aranmula is also the only place where the Aranmula Kannadi is made — a metal-alloy mirror handcrafted by a single family lineage, given as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.

“Come for the temple. Stay for the river. Leave changed.”
